Stanford University
Our East Palo Alto Academy schools receive direct, research-based support
on curriculum design, implementation and assessment from more than twenty
faculty members at the Stanford University School of Education.
In addition, Stanford faculty from the Humanities, Sciences, Medical School,
and Graduate School of Business also work closely with the schools,
expanding the programs and curriculum at each of the schools,
including early college courses, health care programs,
and technology assistance.
Stanford undergraduate and graduate students working with the Haas Center
for Public Service serve as after-school math and literacy tutors.
Teachers for a New Era
Teachers for a New Era (TNE) is a landmark initiative designed to strengthen
K-12 teaching by developing excellent teacher education programs.
The Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) is one of eleven TNE
institutions, and East Palo Alto Academy is one of the partner schools.
TNE cultivates teacher leaders who share a set of core values that includes
a commitment to social justice, an understanding of the strengths and
needs of a diverse student population, and a dedication to equity and
academic excellence for all students.
The program takes an approach to teaching and learning that is sensitive
to the family, community, and political contexts of education, focused
on the needs and development of diverse learners, and grounded in the
study of subject matter that enables inquiry, critical thinking,
and high student achievement.
Ravenswood City School District
The Stanford New Schools charter was granted in May 2005 by the Ravenswood
City School District, which serves grades K-8 in East Palo Alto and
East Menlo Park.
The East Palo Alto Academy K-8 School partners with the Ravenswood City
School District in developing the skills of new teachers.
Stanford University also works closely with the district on a variety
of projects, including a reading instruction training program for
undergraduates while offering tutoring to Ravenswood first graders.
Sequoia Union High School District
The East Palo Alto Academy High School has a collaborative relationship
with Sequoia Union High School District which provides the facility for
the high school.
Students from the Ravenswood City School District usually attend schools
in the Sequoia Union High School District once they reach grade 9.
Stanford University faculty partner with district practitioners on a
variety of school improvement activities, including English Language
Development and teacher development.
